Happy Valentines Day! So last time we talked about how there was a difference between the Holy Spirit and the Force in that the Force was only accessible by some while the Holy Spirit is accessible by all. This time we are going to be talking about the differences in how each is…. used (pardon the poor wording). The Force, once harnessed by the user can be manipulated to move objects, influence others minds, and generally just do some really sweet Jedi stuff.

The Holy Spirit on the other hand does so much more incredible things. On the surface it may not seem like it to be honest. I mean, controlling things with my mind? How can anything possibly top that? Well, in contrast to the Force the Holy Spirit isn’t some ethereal force to be tamed and used for whatever good or nefarious purpose that you have. The Holy Spirit is an unconstrained, unstoppable, and unchanged part of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit doesn’t bend to our human will but instead guides us towards the Truth and the Light and no matter how hard others may try, the Holy Spirit never guides in any evil practices (like the Force with the Dark Side). Even in terms of coolness factor, the Holy Spirit still got the Force beaten handily. For example in Acts 2:

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Like what?? That’s insane! The Force ain’t got nothing on that.

The next time we will talk about some similarities in the two, chiefly among them the different ways people view the Force/the Holy Spirit. I know I haven’t covered every single way the two are different, there are so many more, but to me these were just the two most important ones.
